Technology and talent converge at IMAGE 2026

Aramco joins global industry and academic leaders at IMAGE 2026 to showcase innovation, foster collaboration and support tomorrow’s energy workforce.

As the global geoscience and energy community gathered in Houston for the International Meeting for Applied Geoscience & Energy (IMAGE) 2026, the theme of integration stood out. From world-class oil and gas projects to AI and digital technologies, IMAGE highlighted how collaboration across disciplines is advancing innovation across the sector.

Held Aug. 17-21 at the George R. Brown Convention Center, IMAGE 2026 brought together scientists, researchers, technology providers, students and industry leaders from around the world to exchange ideas, showcase innovations, and explore solutions to some of the industry’s most complex challenges.

Strengthening collaboration

The conference theme, "Connecting Ideas to Power the World," reflected a growing industry focus on bringing together diverse expertise and moving beyond traditional boundaries to solve technical and business challenges.

“Geoscience remains foundational to understanding and developing the energy systems that power our world, whether that involves traditional oil and gas projects or new energies,” said Abdulrahman Alshuhail, acting director of the Geoscience and Reservoir Technology Department at Saudi Aramco. “By integrating geology, geophysics, data analytics and emerging technologies, our industry is creating new opportunities to better understand the subsurface, enhance performance, and support the energy solutions of the future.”

For Aramco, IMAGE serves as a valuable space to strengthen existing relationships, build new partnerships, and explore collaborations that help accelerate innovation.

Throughout the week, Aramco experts contributed to the technical dialogue through 35 oral presentations and 15 poster sessions covering AI, autonomous systems, advanced seismic imaging, reservoir characterization, carbon storage and next-generation sensing technologies, among other topics.

Inspiring the next generation

Beyond technology and innovation, IMAGE also reinforced the industry's commitment to developing future talent, bringing together students, early-career professionals, experienced practitioners and retirees who continue to mentor and support the next generation of geoscientists.

"The technologies may evolve, but the need for skilled geoscientists remains constant," said Raed Alouhali, director of U.S. Research and Development. "Events like IMAGE connect students and young professionals with industry leaders, inspire the next generation of talent, and help ensure the field continues to innovate for decades to come."

With university geoscience programs facing declining enrollment and growing workforce challenges, industry engagement remains critical. Through academic partnerships, student programs and professional development initiatives, organizations across the sector are helping strengthen the talent pipeline needed to meet future energy needs.

Aramco's support of the Women's Network Luncheon and other networking events further reflected the company's commitment to education, mentorship and scientific discovery.
