How the FIFA World Cup 2026™ brought Houston together and created opportunities for future generations

When the FIFA World Cup 2026™ arrived in Houston, it delivered far more than world-class soccer. From Houston Stadium to the FIFA Fan Festival™ Houston, the tournament turned the city into a global gathering place united by soccer. For several weeks, families, fans and visitors from around the world shared an experience that celebrated the sport, highlighted the best of the region, and showcased the community’s can-do spirit.

For Aramco Americas, the tournament was an opportunity to strengthen community connections and support programs with lasting impact. Through local partnerships and employee volunteerism, the company helped expand access to soccer and created new opportunities for young people on and off the field.

“Houston has been home to Aramco Americas for more than 50 years, and this was our chance to show the world the way we connect with this city that has so much to offer its residents and visitors,” said Ahmed S. AL-Mulhem, President and CEO of Aramco Americas. “Every fan who stepped on the pitch at the Aramco Arena experienced the energy of the tournament firsthand and created memories that will last a lifetime.”

Growing the game, expanding access

As an Official Houston World Cup 2026™ Host City Supporter, Aramco Americas worked with local partners to help carry the tournament’s impact beyond match day. Through Impact Houston 26, a collaboration between the FIFA World Cup 26™ Houston Host Committee and the Sports Authority Foundation, Aramco and other partners supported programs designed to deliver lasting benefits for the community.

Growing the game of soccer was a key priority, as was expanding access in underserved neighborhoods. Aramco co-hosted six free youth soccer clinics alongside the Host City and local soccer clubs across the greater Houston area.

“We co-hosted a number of clinics and welcomed more than a thousand young players from across the region,” noted AL-Mulhem. “Soccer teaches teamwork, resilience and excellence — these same qualities are at the heart of how we develop people, strengthen communities, and deliver reliable energy at Aramco every day.”

Aramco Americas’ support has played an active role in realizing the city’s wider legacy program, which aims to create new spaces and opportunities to inspire young people through sport, delivering impact in the community long after the tournament has finished.

Bringing communities together

The spirit of community was also on full display at the FIFA Fan Festival™ Houston, one of 13 Fan Festivals across Canada, Mexico and the U.S. At the festival’s Aramco Arena, youth groups competed on a 7-vs.-7 turf pitch featuring advanced materials, while guests took part in open play and interactive challenges that blended innovation and athleticism, while bringing people together through a shared love of soccer.

The impact of these activities will continue long after the tournament. Following the event, the turf used for the Aramco Arena pitch is planned to remain in the city, continuing to serve the Houston community.

With Houston Stadium welcoming more than 68,000 fans per match and the FIFA Fan Festival™ Houston averaging approximately 16,400 visitors each day, the city showcased its rich cultural diversity.

A legacy that lives on

The tournament also showcased the power of volunteerism. Nearly 30 Aramco Americas employees joined the largest FIFA volunteer program in history, supporting activities at Houston Stadium, airports, training sites, and fan venues. Alongside thousands of fellow volunteers, they helped welcome visitors from around the world and demonstrated Houston’s renowned hospitality.

As the tournament becomes part of history, its legacy continues across the region. Through investments in community partnerships, youth programs and volunteer service, Aramco Americas helped transform this global event into lasting community impact, creating opportunities that will benefit future generations for years to come.
