About 60 volunteers from Aramco and Motiva partnered with Trees for Houston to plant 65 trees at Finnigan Park on November 5.
“Planting trees is a gift for people you’ll never know,” said Barry Ward, Executive Director of Trees for Houston. “It’s a gift to the future. Aramco has been doing that for 19 years now, and we are immensely grateful to what they’ve done.”
Ward elaborated on Aramco’s involvement with the organization in his opening remarks at the event.
“You’re going to have an 80% failure rate over five years on trees that are not maintained," said Ward. “We water these for two years and replace as needed, so we have a very high survival rate on the trees that you all plant. It tells me you care about the efficacy of what we’re doing.”

Next year marks the 20th anniversary of Aramco’s partnership with Trees for Houston, which has resulted in the planting of almost a million trees at parks around the Houston metropolitan area over the last two decades.
Members of the local community appreciated Aramco’s efforts as volunteers planted trees.
“With the limited dollars that the city is facing, it’s crucial that we form partnerships with companies like Aramco,” said Dr. Michael Pelton, Assistant Principal at the nearby Nathaniel Q. Henderson Elementary School.
“Schools only have so much space on the actual campuses, so having an 18-acre park right across from our school is a fantastic place for our kids to grow and play. It’s a safe space for them to be after school.”

The yearly tree planting event is one of the most popular corporate events throughout the year, bringing together families and colleagues who aren’t afraid to get their hands a little dirty.
“We enjoy volunteering and giving back as a family so we try to take advantage of these chances to impact the community and encourage the next generation of volunteerism,” said Ronald Charles, Treasurer at Aramco Americas.
“It feels great to give back to the community,” added John Gomez, Health, Safety, and Environment Advisor at Aramco Americas. “Coming out here and actually doing something tangible is great. I’m ready for next year’s event already.”
