Supporting STEM nationwide with the Million Girls Moonshot
Gretchen Gillis, Senior Geologist, Aramco Americas, shares her STEM journey and career at Aramco during the Girls Build Solutions Showcase.

The Million Girls Moonshot aims to engage more girls in STEM learning opportunities through afterschool and summer programs, and Aramco Americas is proud to have recently joined other leading companies as a funding partner for the initiative.

We also recently participated in the second annual Girls Build Solutions Showcase in Atlanta, Georgia, June 26-28, hosted by the Million Girls Moonshot's STEM Next Opportunity Fund to create opportunities for young people in all 50 states.

Gretchen Gillis, Senior Geologist, Aramco Americas, was one of the keynote speakers and shared insights from her career in science with the 350 students, teachers, and mentors in attendance.

The event also honored the Million Girls Moonshot 2023 “Flight Crew” of 44 students from 38 states, who are working in their communities to spark curiosity about science and engineering among their peers.

The Moonshot initiative has already reached its initial goal of getting one million more girls involved in STEM education. New targets are being set to develop more future innovators, advance afterschool programs, and champion STEM at all levels to create the next generation of diverse talent in the sciences.

The Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta set the scene for this national event recognizing youth who are making a difference in STEM and elevating the potential of girls in STEM. Aramco has joined the Million Girls Moonshot, an initiative of the STEM Next Opportunity Fund, as a funding partner.

Joining a session day one of the conference “Exploring STEM Possibilities: A Deep Dive into Creating Pathways to Tomorrow's Workforce” the Honorable Cindy Marten, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education, noted the importance of leaning in and listening to our youth and our educators.

The Department's YOU Belong in STEM campaign is designed to strengthen STEM education nationwide and ensure 21st century career readiness and global competitiveness.

Our participation in the Million Girls Moonshot will help the organization expand its portfolio and increase public awareness of out-of-school time as an opportunity to pursue additional learning.
