Aramco Champions First OurEcho Environmental Challenge

For the second year, Aramco sponsors the OurEcho biodiversity challenge for middle school teams across the U.S. The competition designed by EarthEcho International, a global nonprofit founded on the belief that youth have the power to change our planet, inspires student projects to protect biodiversity in their own backyards.

The competition is accepting submissions for the 2021 OurEcho Challenge.  Aramco's support makes this STEM experience possible with a Challenge Guide featuring starter activities, lesson plans and resources for educators, and a dedicated OurEcho Challenge website.  Ten finalist teams will present their ideas virtually and the top three teams will be awarded grants: first place $5,000, second place $2,000 and third place $1,000 to turn their projects into a reality.

The competition engages young problem solvers in studying, respecting and protecting the diversity of species and ecosystems that make life on earth possible. Teams of students, guided by a teacher or mentor, are challenged to address the decline in biodiversity by identifying threats to natural resources in their communities and developing innovative solutions.

“During last year's inaugural OurEcho Challenge we were blown away by the ingenuity, passion and determination of young leaders ready, willing and able to take on the growing global decline of biodiversity,” said Philippe Cousteau, Jr., founder of EarthEcho International.

“We are pleased to again support the OurEcho Challenge and its role in inspiring the next generation to apply their creativity and talent to finding environmental solutions,” said Nabeel I. AlAfaleg, president & CEO or Aramco Americas.  “As a company committed to engineering and innovation, we look forward to supporting the competition and seeing new ideas become reality.”

This spring, June 10-11, EarthEcho International selects the 10 finalist teams to compete for the top three projects which will receive the grants funded by Aramco.
