Trade magazine “Hart's E&P” has recognized Aramco for its contributions with a prestigious 2020 Special Meritorious Award for Engineering Innovation in the category Improved Oil Recovery/Enhanced Oil Recovery/Remediation for the development of “Nano-Encapsulated Reservoir Chemical Treatments.”
This technology improves mobilization of trapped crude oil from carbonate rock in an economic, efficient, and environmentally friendly enhanced oil recovery (EOR) method.
Aramco's Exploration and Petroleum Engineering Center - Advanced Research Center (EXPEC ARC) Reservoir Engineering Technology (RET) Teams in Dhahran and at its U.S.-based research center in Boston closely collaborated on the creation of the nanoencapsulation process which was recently field tested in Saudi Arabia.
Aramco was also recognized in the category of Waste Management for its “Acoustic Oil-Water-Fines Separation,” a system for reducing costs and environmental impacts associated with managing large volumes of produced water and in the Exploration/Geoscience category for “SpiceRack,” an autonomous subsea seismic acquisition technology.
An expert panel of judges comprised of geologists, geophysicists, petrophysicists and engineers from operating and consulting companies worldwide select winning technologies from a broad range of every segment in the upstream petroleum industry.
“The awards program recognizes new products and technologies designed by people and companies who understand the need for newer, better and constantly changing technological innovation,” said Hart Energy organizers in its news release. Traditionally, winners are recognized during the annual Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) which has been canceled this year due to the COVID -19 pandemic.
