Longtime Houston Food Bank partner Aramco Americas continues to support families in the Greater Houston area with a $300,000 donation in preparation for the upcoming holiday season.

While food insecurity is more than a seasonal issue, it can be more prevalent around the holiday time.

“Aramco Americas always steps forward in times of need,” said Paula McKenzie, Director of Major Gifts, Houston Food Bank.  “They are longtime advocates and we are grateful for their continued support, especially as we approach Thanksgiving and Christmas.”

Every $1 provides three meals, so a donation of this amount can provide 900,000 meals, truly making an impact in our ability to serve families during this time, said McKenzie.

The Houston Food Bank, part of the Feeding America nationwide network of food banks, is the largest food bank in America serving 18 southeast Texas counties.  More than 1,500 community partners help the organization reach thousands of Texans each week with food supplies.

“The pandemic has challenged families and our entire community in so many ways this year,” said Mohammad S. Alshammari, Aramco Americas, President & CEO.  “We are pleased to extend our support again to a great organization, the Houston Food Bank, that has proven to be vital and does so much in our community to fight hunger.”

The economic impact from the pandemic has more families relying on food banks than ever before.  Food banks across the U.S. are seeing unprecedented demand---including the Houston Food Bank.

Aramco employees, their family members, and summer students are a familiar group to the Houston Food Bank having sorted and packaged food through years of on-site volunteer efforts.  While the pandemic has limited on-site participation, the company continues to be a strong advocate for the organization.

In addition, the Houston Food Bank is one of the 62 official charity partners in the “Run for a Reason” charitable component at the upcoming virtual 2021 Houston Marathon Weekend of races which includes the Chevron Houston Marathon, Aramco Houston Half Marathon and the We Are Houston 5k, sponsored by both Chevron and Aramco.  The program connects the philanthropic community with passionate race participants willing to fundraise and raise awareness for meaningful causes.  This year, runners complete their race from anywhere in the world between January 8-17, 2021.    The public can support a runner, honor a loved one and make a donation to the Houston Food Bank.

Earlier this year, Aramco's nationwide response to food shortages resulted in donations to five food banks across the U.S., including Houston, providing millions of meals to those in need.   Aramco Americas has been a Houston Food Bank partner since 2006.
