Houston Marathon Weekend is approaching fast, and Aramco is gathering its volunteer crew to support another sold-out event.  It’s slated for January 17-19, 2020, with about 30,000 people (max capacity) expected to hit the ground running Saturday and Sunday in the three official races.  For all the runners, participants and volunteers out there, you are the reason we are proud to be a sponsor, together with Chevron, of these events.

Aramco Houston Half Marathon

Marathon Weekend, which includes the Aramco half marathon, the Chevron full, and the We are Houston 5K, are a tribute to health and fitness while also contributing to local charities and bring economic benefits to the city we at Aramco Americas have called home for 40+ years.

Last year marked our 15th year as the title sponsor of the half marathon, and our first year as a presenting sponsor, with Chevron, of the We are Houston 5K.  The 2019 half was also one for the history books – with an all-time high of more than 16,000 signed up for the half.  Despite the near-freezing temperatures, the brisk conditions inspired faster race times – especially among the elite competitors.

Brigid Kosgei of Kenya crossed the finish line at 1:05:50, setting a new record for the fastest half marathon in history run by a woman in the United States. Several of the elite runners the 2019 leading pack also posted top finishes – giving the Aramco Houston Half Marathon the eight fastest half-marathon times by women ever on U.S. soil.  Shura Kitata of Ethiopia won in the men's division, breaking the finish tape with a time of 1:00:11.

Houston Marathon Weekend is also Aramco's largest annual community event in the U.S.  We not only serve as a sponsor – but Aramco employees, their families and friends turn out in numbers to support race-related activities – distributing race packets, gear bags, finisher medals and shirts.  A team of Aramco employees also join other runners in participating in the races.  This year, we expect more than 300 volunteers and runners from our company to be involved in weekend's events.

We are also proud of the Marathon Weekend's charitable component, “Run for a Reason”, which links the philanthropic community to race participants to raise funds for meaningful causes as part of their racing experience. Over the past decade, participants in the races together topped $2 million per year in donations.

The Aramco Houston Half Marathon will be featured on the local ABC-TV affiliate, along with the full marathon; and also broadcast on ESPN3, the Longhorn Network – reaching more than 120 million homes globally.
