Sharing powerful tools to help prevent campus tragedies

Aramco Supports Houston Crime Stoppers
Crime Stoppers of Houston Partners with Aramco to Continue Statewide School Safety Trainings

Crime Stoppers of Houston, with funding from longtime supporter Aramco, continues Statewide School Safety Trainings that share the Crime Stoppers of Houston Safe School program with cities and towns across the State of Texas. A third training session was held recently at the Crime Stoppers of Houston headquarters in Midtown Houston.

Whether starting a new Crime Stoppers school program or working to improve an existing program, the tools offered are proven to keep kids safer while at school. At the training, participants from law enforcement assigned to Crime Stoppers organizations and school district representatives were equipped with critical information such as how to implement the TIP LINE for reporting and use of the mobile app and website as a resource.

In response to preventing violence in Texas schools after the Santa Fe school tragedy, Governor Greg Abbott's multifaceted “School and Firearm Safety Action Plan” recognized the work of Crime Stoppers of Houston and called for the expansion of its Safe School Program statewide.
At the recent training, representatives from 30 organizations, including Brazoria County, Wilson County and City of San Antonio, attended the full-day training at Crime Stoppers of Houston.

As the largest Crime Stoppers organization in the country, the Houston program serves as a model for school safety.  Crime Stoppers of Houston is working with the Governor's Criminal Justice Division to roll out the training statewide this year.  Support from Aramco makes this expansion possible and represents its strong commitment to safety and corporate citizenship.

“Our partnership with Crime Stoppers of Houston began almost two decades ago,” said Aramco Services Company President and CEO Basil Abul-Hamayel.  “We've seen the positive impact this organization has had on the city of Houston and are pleased to support its Safe School Program expansion statewide.”

Understanding that students are the first line of intelligence to prevent campus tragedies, Crime Stoppers of Houston created the Safe School Program in 1997 to provide students with an anonymous reporting system that they could utilize 24 hours a day to report dangers and threats on their school campus. The program has solved nearly 2,000 school cases andremoved almost 300 weapons from Houston-area schools.

“Situations are changing, especially when it comes to children in schools.  With a desire to make sure that all children across the state of Texas are safe at all times while at school, Aramco has extended its Crime Stoppers of Houston support through the Safe School Institute,” says Crime Stoppers CEO Rania Mankarious.

The Safe School Program has evolved into the Safe School Institute now serving as the hub for all aspects of school safety and covering topics such as cyber safety, drug awareness, teen dating violence, mental health awareness, and much more.

Currently, the trainings are free for participants, but Crime Stoppers hopes others will donate toward these efforts.
