Geoscientists from more than 60 countries recently participated in this year’s American Association of Petroleum Geologists International Conference and Exhibition (AAPG ICE) in Buenos Aires, Argentina, late August.

Latin American basins, sedimentology and stratigraphy sessions were on the agenda along with global strategic, technical and economic issues affecting the advancement of oil and gas exploration and production.

Aramco’s participation in the technical program illustrated its strong leadership in petroleum geology and geoscience specialties such as geomechanics and geophysics.

Presentations such as “Unlocking Reservoir Gas Potential: R&D Strategy for Geosteering in Coiled Tubing Drilling” and “A Quantitative Seal Analysis Workflow: Towards A Standardized Risking Process” attracted attendees as well as Aramco’s prominent display on the exhibition floor. Gretchen Gillis, Geological Consultant, Aramco Services Company, spoke during the first Visiting Geoscientist Program Symposium designed for students and young professionals.

“It was extremely interesting for our delegation to have a closer look at how the hydrocarbon resources of Latin America are being pursued, be they conventional or unconventional,” said Sa’id Al Hajri, Manager, Geological Operations Department, Saudi Aramco. He noted Latin America’s steady pursuit of unconventional resources, which were highlighted in presentations within the Unconventional Resources Theme.

Participating in the first Visiting Geoscientist Program Symposium was Gretchen Gillis, Geological Consultant, Upstream, Houston-based Aramco Services Company, who represented the company in a session designed for students and young professionals.

Aramco was a diamond sponsor of the three-day event attended by more than 1,500 geoscience professionals and 70 exhibitors. Aramco personnel met with potential suppliers of new technology and networked with potential candidates for upstream positions.
